Brand Design Council of South Africa
The Brand Design Council of South Africa (think) was established in 2001 to serve the needs of the design professional in South Africa. Think is the only organisation in this country that specifically caters for the communication design industry. Members have the opportunity to make their voices heard and to set trends and shape the direction of the industry. In October 2009, the organisation's name was changed to the Brand Design Council of South Africa. As a non-profit Section 21 company, the organisation is governed by a Code of Ethical Conduct that sets the standards of practice and the industry. The Brand Design Council of South Africa is a member of Icograda, the world body for professional design and visual communication.

Construction Guru
Construction Guru is an Indian-based online portal for architects, interior designers, educators, institutes, students, manufacturers, dealers, suppliers and more. The Portal combines the latest, intelligent Web 2.0 technology with the inherent advantages of the Internet to create a channel that enables manufacturers to reach and communicate with construction and design communities. The Portal encourages the co-operative relationship between manufacturers and suppliers - enabling manufacturers to continuously and cost-effectively reach out and inform their target market and for suppliers to find or request product information and support whenever they need it.
The intention is to have an actively engaged community and give architects and design professionals exactly what they actually want, to serve their needs and for them to take daily advantage of the many features the Portal has to offer. The size and vibrancy of the community reflects how genuinely useful and user-friendly architects and design professionals find the Portal. The content creates a forum where the whole community can communicate interactively and freely exchange information.
The Portal has the latest technologies to build communities who regularly engage with each other and give the construction and design industry professionals what they actually want, and when they want it. A great advantage of the Portal is that professionals and other participants in the construction and design industries will be able to use the Portal and save significant amounts of time. Time equals money and the Portal is a "one-stop shop" for people operating in the construction and design industries to get the information they require when they want it and in a convenient format.

Design Education Forum of Southern Africa (DEFSA)
The Design Education Forum of Southern Africa (DEFSA) is a professional organisation of design educators, spanning most design disciplines such as industrial, graphic, interior, clothing, ceramic, textile, jewellery and commercial photography.
Institutional membership of DEFSA is open to any educational or training institution that is HEQC accredited and registered. Individual membership is open to educational practitioners and any person with an interest in design education.

International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda)
The International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) is the world body for professional communication design. Founded in 1963, it is a voluntary assembly of organisations concerned with graphic design, visual communication, design management, promotion, education, research and journalism. Icograda promotes communication designers' vital role in society and commerce and unifies the voices of graphic designers and visual communicators worldwide.
The vision, mission and core values of the council are collectively embodied in the statement 'leading creatively' and manifested through our Members' diverse activities to use design as a medium for progressive change.
Icograda maintains consultative status with UNESCO, UNIDO and WIPO. Icograda is a member of IFRRO and is in liaison with technical committees of ISO.

International Design Media Network (IDMN)
The International Design Media Network (IDMN) brings the world's design media together in an online community – a single, convenient source. The network consists of IDMN Participants and bona fide design publications and media. This network is dedicated to establishing and promoting standards and ethics in design journalism. It creates a forum for sharing ideas and information, fostering discourse among participants and the International Design Alliance (IDA), and contributing to the furtherance of a meaningful body of knowledge regarding design and the role that it plays in modern society. The partners of the IDA are the International Council for Graphic Design Associations (Icograda), International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (Icsid) and the International Federation of Interior Architects & Designers (IFI) IDMN Participants are guided by basic values that influence individual and collective conduct, demonstrate accountability, and are publicly defensible. These values are consistent with those adopted by the Icograda board and form the basis for ethical actions, mutual trust and cooperation amongst IDMN Participants. IDMN Participants agree to:

* Act in the spirit of a global community and cooperation.

The South African Institute of the Interior Design Professions (IID)
The South African Institute of the Interior Design Professions (IID) is the only professional body representing the interior design industry in South Africa. It operates nationally with representation in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern and Western Cape.
The Institute is dedicated to establishing, promoting and maintaining expertise, professionalism, sound business practice and high standards throughout the industry.
Membership of the IID indicates your status as a qualified, experienced and ethical practicing professional. The IID is a Member of IFI, the International Federation of Interior Architects & Designers.

JAG: Johannesburg Art Gallery
Situated in Joubert Park surrounded by the busy CBD of Johannesburg, the Johannesburg Art Gallery (JAG) prides itself in its extensive collection of 9000 artworks from international and local artists. The collection, which was first opened to the public in 1910, remains one of the largest in the sub continent. The collection is housed in a three-storey building which boasts 15 exhibition halls and sculpture gardens originally design by the architect Edwin Lutyens.
JAG plays a critical role in the urban regeneration programmes of the area and provides a stable base in Joubert Park. As its current curator and director, Antoinette Murdoch, states JAG strives to create a more culturally aware South Africa through world class exhibitions and regular educational activities.

Kitchen Specialists Association (KSA)
The mission of the Kitchen Specialists Association (KSA) is to create a professional and stable trading environment in which the industry can prosper and consumers can enjoy complete peace-of-mind.
As an independent body and non-profit organisation, the KSA is able to offer the potential kitchen, bathroom and built-in cupboard purchaser some sound advice with regard to choosing a suitable company.
Each member has satisfied a stringent checking procedure before they can join, and more importantly, has to maintain the high standards the KSA insists upon or risk being expelled from the association. The KSA has a broad membership representation including affiliate members who supply to the kitchen, bathroom and built-in cupboard industries.

Network of Africa Designers (NAD)
At the 2009 Africa Design Day held in Cape Town in February this year the first steps were taken towards formalising the Network of Africa Designers (NAD) by adopting the NAD Design Charter. NAD, which started out as an informal network of practising designers on the African continent, was established in 1999 under guidance from the SABS Design Institute as part of its Design for Development initiative.
NAD's vision is to offer a network for all the stakeholders involved with design in Africa, with the aim to foster design for sustainable development on the continent. The steering committee members come from South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Uganda, Ghana and Namibia, while the SABS Design Institute organises the secretariat. Collaboration is focused in three areas - design education, professional design and communication.

NO KAK! Campaign. Eco Design Initiative 2010
"No waste, no pollution and absolutely no harm!"
Designers are the catalysts that make a sustainable future possible – and today's ultimate design challenge is to create durable products and services that minimize adverse impacts on the environment, while making everyday life simpler and more pleasant. This is the motivation for the Eco Design Initiative 2010.
This campaign encourages growth and transformation of entrepreneurial concepts in South Africa through encouraging designers and industry to "rethink". Set against environmental, political and social development challenges, this initiative is making a positive contribution in the country by showing that these challenges can be addressed and overcome with sustainable design. The Eco Design Initiative creates opportunities for learning partnerships, culture exchange and skills transfer.
The campaign includes The Eco Design Competition, The Fresh Talent Workshop and showcase opportunities in South Africa and Sweden.

South African Fashion Week
The SA Fashion Week stages the Spring/Summer and Autumn/Winter Designer Collections, respectively in August and March each year. These annual events are timed to dovetail with the international fashion week circuit. The Sanlam SA Fashion Week Designer Collections is an independent platform modelled on international best practice in terms of production values and format, with shows accommodating no more than 550 guests at a time. As such it provides local designers with a highly professional environment in which to launch their seasonal ranges to key stakeholders such as the media, professional buyers, independent retailers, existing and potential private clients.

THE 32nd ANNUAL LOERIE AWARDS
Awarding Creativity that Works

World Architecture Festival (WAF)
The World Architecture Festival is now a major fixture in the international architectural calendar. As the only annual international architectural event that rewards excellence in a truly interactive, inclusive and live format, it attracts the best practices and schemes from all over the world.
WAF 2010 will take place in the CCIB in Barcelona from 3-5 November 2010. The programme includes the WAF Awards (with 5 awards sections, 42 categories, covering 100+ building types judged by a super jury of world renowned architects), 15 seminars and a series of exhibitions. The 2010 thematic exhibition is based on the theme of 'Transformations'. The 2010 theme relates to the way in which the built environment can be transformed by a combination of client commitment, architectural imagination, technological development and professional teamwork.

Selected projects will be put into production and sold by WHAT'S MORE ALIVE THAN YOU™ and designers awarded a net 6% royalty fee on the sales price. Wolda
Built on the success of Eulda, the European Logo Design Annual (which has replaced), Wolda is the high-profile graphic design award scheme that rewards the best logos and trademarks designed throughout the world. The winners are selected by an international three-tier jury consisting of 10 top design professionals, 10 marketing managers from major international clients and finally 10 members of the public (provided respectively by the worldwide organizations Icograda, Aquent and Consumers International).
